How it Started

Robert Murphy started his aquaculture career in 1993 growing mussels, before transitioning to oysters in 2017. Robert has always taken pride in having top quailty oysters and has passed on his knowledge to his children. Robert's children, Lexie and Lance, have helped in the aquaculture industry since the age of 14 and have worked side by side with their father.  Growing up, Lexie and Lance worked on both the mussel and oyster operations and have instilled Roberts value of producing quality product. Now his kids (Lexie and Lance) are looking to follow his dedication to the shellfish industry and provide quality oysters to consumers around the globe.

About Us

We are a family-run farm located in central Prince Edward Island (P.E.I), Canada. At Murphy Oyster Company, we cultivate a range of oysters including cocktail, small, and large choice varieties. Our oysters take 4 to 6 years to mature to full size, and are grown and fed within the pristine waters of P.E.I., giving our oysters a distinct perfect flavour with a crisp brininess to start and a subtly sweet finish.  Murphy Oyster Company takes great pride in growing top quailty oysters for oyster lovers around the world.

Sustainability

At Murphy Oyster Company, we take great pride in protecting our ecosystems and resources. Rather than using our boats to work the lease, we now swim the lease to flip our cages, reducing our carbon footprint. For some jobs we still utilize the boats, but have cut our usage in half!

Did you know that oysters are highly beneficial to our waterways and contribute to helping combat climate change?  Oysters are filter feeders, meaning as they pump water through  (up to 50 gallons a day), they are not only feeding on phytoplankton and organic matter, but they are also cleaning the water, improving water clarity and removing excess nutrients. With a cleaner ocean and more sea life, this increases the ocean's capacity to sequester carbon! Read more here!
